Shark Point

This is one of the best dive sites in Sydney, I think the best shore dive, because it offers so many different types of dives, with abundant marine life. You can spend an entire dive along the sponge covered walls, or the rocks and boulders, or head out on the sand, go deep or stay shallow, each option giving the opportunity to see different wildlife. Giant cuttlefish are regularly spotted here, along with sharks, rays, weedy sea dragons (if you are on twin tanks or a scooter), eastern blue devilfish and many nudibranchs too.

This site is only possible to dive when the conditions are right because the entry and exit can be very scary. You absolutely must carry an SMB / safety sausage with you, and you should tell friends on land when you are going and when you are expected to return.  Shark Point is a fantastic dive site but is also probably the most dangerous one in Sydney (and potentially New South Wales). I know many people, including myself, that have got into trouble at this site which is why I would only advice Advanced Open Water divers to try it, and that divers learn the area on guided dives for example through Dive Centre Bondi. Never take the sea for granted - even with hundreds of dives in this spot a freak wave or changing sea conditions can make a pleasant dive turn into a nightmare.

Note, the rocks move regularly, making the entry EVEN more dangerous. I would highly recommend waiting for low tide before entering at the gutter.

Once in, you could head north if you have twin tanks and see what we call "roundabout rock" where the schools of fish, overhangs, and bommies are probably the best of Sydney. If you can plan your dive with a scooter you can go further north and find weedy seadragons. But if you are short on time, once you enter at the gutter you should head south and go along the wall (its super beautiful) and head back to the Clovelly pool as your exit.

This dive site is incredible. Book your dive and ensure you understand the experience level of your guide before you do it.
