Gordon's Bay is a beautiful site in the eastern suburbs, with wooden boats lining the shore, and a walking trail that wraps around it. For divers, this site includes an underwater nature trail complete with chains and posts that helps divers navigate the site. The trail is managed and maintained by the Gordons Bay Scuba Diving club. At this site you are almost guaranteed to find a friendly Eastern Blue Groper, and it is not uncommon to find Wobbegong sharks, Port jackson sharks and plenty of other fish. The site is a mix of sandy flats, kelp covered rocks and boulders.
The bay is protected by an offshore reef, which helps keeps the waters calm. Entrance to and from the water can be very tricky in high swell, or if the swell is coming from a south east direction. The rocky pathway leading to the water can be slippy and it is best to ensure you dive Gordons Bay with a guide. I recommend that you contact Dive Centre Bondi to arrange a trip to Gordon's Bay to ensure your safety is first. After your dive you could relax with an ice cream and watch dolphins from the viewpoint, or you could head to the Clovelly hotel for lunch. |
