Fish of Sydney

Fish of Sydney - identify by looks & behavior

When I first started documenting fish on SydneyDives, I stuck to strict taxonomy. But over hundreds of dives, I have realized that we don't usually remember a fish by its family tree. To make this site more intuitive for fellow divers and researchers, I’ve not categorised them in this section by their family names, instead by my lived experiences and how I think of them. Here, you’ll find our local residents organised by their personalities and shapes: from the ones that hide in the shadows to the 'weird and wacky' that inspire my photography.
