This site is quite a popular spot for fishing boats and party boats so even though the entry and exit is very easy the boat traffic is a real danger here.
If you come diving be prepared to use a deployable safety device / SMB / flag to ensure people know you are there and ascend close to the line making sure no boats are overhead. If divers head out too far in the harbour it is extremely dangerous as the ferries come past here at quite some speed. For that reason it is recommended that divers come here through organised guided shore dives from Dive Centre Bondi. The dive site is quite different during the day and night, and I personally much prefer the night diving here. Regularly spotted here are curious friendly octopus, cuttlefish, fan belly leatherjackets, striped catfish, estuary catfish, wobbegong sharks, seahorses, moray eels, rays, porcupinefish, squid and an array of crabs and nudibranchs. There are two car parks at either end of the beach for access and for those shore divers who do not like to walk long distances before a dive Camp Cove is the best option in Sydney. |
